Simon Atkin is the Director of Chiropractic Plus which he established in New Lambton in 1994. Simon’s background includes an Honours Degree in Economics & also Diploma in Remedial & Sports Massage as well as years of experience at a high level in athletics and basketball. Simon has worked closely with the Australian Netball Team, the Australian Rugby League team, the Wallabies and was the Newcastle Knights Injury & Rehabilitation Co-ordinator in 2001 when they won the NRL premiership.
Dr Matthew Hoffman is a highly respected Chiropractor with 20 years experience both overseas and in Australia. Since 2002, Matthew has been Chiropractic Plus’s Senior Chiropractor. He has regularly worked with the Newcastle Jets, the Manly Sea Eagles, men and women from the WWE wrestling team and is also involved with sports injury management for elite Triathlon athletes. Matthew is a specialist and an advocator of regular preventative chiropractic and cares for many pregnant women, young children and the elderly.
Dr John Bricker has been a chiropractor for over 18 years in Canada, where he was born, and here in Australia. In his long career he has helped hundreds of people with back and neck related problems. John became interested in chiropractic at an early age, as his father was also a Chiropractor. John graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic from the world’s most prestigious chiropractic university – Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davonport, Iowa. John joined Chiropractic Plus in 2007.
Dr Peter Imlay started with Chiropractic Plus early 2014. Peter was born and raised in Newcastle and attended Newcastle Grammar School from K-12. He completed his Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and Masters of Chiropractic at Macquarie University in Sydney. Peter is trained in Musculoskeletal Dry Needling and sometimes combines this very effective therapy with chiropractic to achieve optimal results for his patients. Peter has spent 3 years working in medical centres alongside Medical Doctors, Podiatrists and Physiotherapists. This has given him a lot of experience dealing with a wide variety of conditions both spinal and peripheral. He takes great pride in his ability to address shoulder issues. Outside of the office Peter enjoys the beach, spearfishing, archery and camping.
Dr Todd Crafter grew up in the Victorian alpine region where his family built a winery from the ground up, spending his time in the hills on foot, riding motorbikes and on the ski slopes he gained a great appreciation for the outdoors. Todd always had a keen interest and appreciation for science, human health and human function, reinforced by a family tradition in health care he began his studies in Human Movement before commencing a degree in Health Science and finally in Chiropractic at RMIT. After completing the final degree in 2011, Todd set out to learn and observe the best practices all around the country and has now worked with excellent practitioners in more than fifteen clinics throughout Qld, SA, Vic and NSW, he now brings this integrated knowledge of human function and Chiropractic to Chiropractic Plus to create a unique, evidence based and highly effective experience for his patients.
Todd’s hobbies include Crossfit, Kayaking, Four wheel driving, Motorbikes road and dirt, Camping & Travelling Australia. He also enjoys Craft beers, Wine, Horror Movies, Alt & Metal Music
Andrew Waring is one of the most respected massage therapists in Australia! During the 14 years Andrew has been with Chiropractic Plus he has had the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s elite sportspeople, including the Australia Rugby League team, the Australia Netball team and the Newcastle Knights, but undoubtedly the highlight of his career was the two year period he toured with the Wallabies as there Massage Therapist – arguably the most sought after Massage Therapy position in the country.
Kirralee Watton is a local Novocastrian who attended Glendale Technology High School, graduating in 2009 to begin her Diploma of Remedial Massage at Body-Lee Massage College. Kirralee also completed a Certificate Four in Therapeutic Massage, along with Certificate One and Two in Reiki and a Dry Needling course. During her remedial massage course, Kirralee was given the opportunity to massage the Newcastle Knights; some invaluable experience for treating sports-specific injuries and muscular damage. Kirralee enjoys eating vegemite on pancakes, dancing and listening to music.
Tarryn Thompson grew up in Queensland on the Gold Coast. After travelling around Australia for two years with her family, Tarryn moved to Murwillumbah NSW, where she completed her High School Certificate in 2008. In 2011, Tarryn completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage at Kingscliff TAFE, and went on to study an oncology massage course in 2013. Tarryn commenced an Arts Degree in 2014 before joining us here at Chiropractic Plus. While working here, Tarryn will be transferring to a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2015. Tarryn’s interests include playing with her puppy, going to the beach and tending to her growing vegie garden. And, of course, chocolate.
Naomi grew up in the small country town of Gunnedah and made the move to Newcastle in 2007 where she completed her Diploma of Remedial Massage. Over the past six years Naomi has worked with the both Wallabies & Knights and was lucky enough to massage Lady Gaga on the Newcastle leg of her tour in 2010. Naomi is passionate about treating chronic musculoskeletal conditions and believes that massage can improve everybody’s quality of life!
Sharyn Tovey was raised in Port Macquarie and moved to Newcastle in 2011 when she commenced work here as a Remedial Massage Therapist in June the same year. Sharyn is a skilled sports massage therapist with a lot of experience in treating athletes of all kinds. Her clients have included local football teams, Iron Man competitors, the Wallabies and the Cirque Du Soleil performing troupe while they toured through Newcastle.
Sharyn loves a good chat and is a very happy and vibrant member of the Chiro Plus team.
Shannon Dunn is a remedial massage therapist hailing from Kingston South East, in South Australia. Having completed her Diploma in Remedial Massage and a Certificate Four in Bowen Therapy in South Australia in 2004, Shannon has been massaging for 9 years. An experienced hockey player, Shannon has travelled with the South Australia and Australia Country teams as a player and team massage therapist. Being able to help people achieve full movement after injuries and surgeries is something Shannon cherishes as a part of her job role. Shannon plays hockey for Oxfords Hockey Club and enjoys being active in general.
Peta Peters has been a remedial massage therapist since 2012 studying at Hunter College of Massage having qualifications in Sports Injury and Treatment, Triggerpoint and Hot Stone Therapy. Peta grew up in the Hunter Valley where she found a passion for Athletics and Gymnastics, representing at regional and national levels. Peta’s highlight was representing her community in 2000 running the Olympic Torch through her home town of Greta. Peta loves to travel, spend time in her garden and playing tennis.
Nick Ilievskiis part of the massage therapist team at Chiropractic Plus, joining in August 2013. Nick grew up here in Newcastle, attending Bel Air Primary School and Kotara High School, where he also completed his HSC. Along with his Diploma of Remedial Massage, Nick has a Certificate II in Retail and a First Aid Certificate. A soccer fan, Nick plays for local club Broadmeadow Magic and likes to keep up with the National Premier League. Nick also likes to stay fit by going regularly to the gym. Outside of work and fitness, he enjoys shopping and music.
Lisa O’Donnelljoined the team at Chiropractic Plus in 2011. She completed her Diploma of Remedial Massage at Newcastle TAFE. Prior to this she worked in administration. Lisa grew up in Canberra and moved to Newcastle as a teenager. She lived for some years in Sydney and the United Kingdom. She is the mother of two teenage sons.
Alain Abril Acosta was born and raised in Cusco, Peru. Alain completed his schooling in Peru, at Pukllasunchis School and went on to study a degree in Tourism at the University of Andina del Cusco. After moving to Australia, Alain completed his Diploma of Remedial Massage at the Australian College of Massage in Bondi Junction, Sydney. When he isn’t busy working at Chiropractic Plus, Alain is interested in water sports such as white-water kayaking, wave-boarding and surfing, and also enjoys mixed martial arts and skateboarding.
Kylie Chant was born in Auckland, New Zealand and grew up in Nowra on the South Coast of NSW. Kylie completed her Diploma of Remedial Massage at Tighes Hill TAFE and sees attaining her position at Chiropractic Plus as a career highlight! She is the mother of two boys and enjoys playing soccer, touch football and going fishing.
Now our practice manager, Madeleine Smith joined our team in late 2010 and has enjoyed being a part of the admin staff ever since. Maddy grew up in Newcastle and completed her HSC at Hunter Valley Grammar in 2008. She went on to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Newcastle, however since working here in the health industry, Maddy has changed courses and is now enrolled in a Nursing Degree also at Newcastle, to pursue a career in this field. Maddy enjoys keeping fit and plays netball for West Leagues Club.
Bianca Sibert is a valued member of the Chiropractic Plus admin support team. Bianca completed her HSC at St Francis Xavier’s College in 2004 and has since graduated from a BA of Communications and a BA of Arts, both at Newcastle Uni. She has travelled throughout her time studying and com- pleted an exchange semester at the University of East Anglia in the UK. Bianca hopes to continue Post-Grad studies while working at ChiroPlus. She enjoys staying active and has played for Souths Womens Hockey Club since leaving school.
Donna Rathborne joined the team at Chiropractic Plus in November 2013 as our newest receptionist and practitioner’s assistant. Born and raised here in Newcastle, Donna attended St Phillip’s Christian College at Waratah, graduating and attaining her HSC in 2008. Donna hopes to study a degree in Communications in the near future and has a keen interest in body art and music.
Grace Cameron is the youngest member of the Chiropractic Plus team, a Newcastle born and breed girl with a passion for dance. Grace completed her HSC in 2013 at Callaghan College, where she did additional studies in a certificate II in business services. Grace went on to complete a certificate III in medical administration and has made plans to complete her Certificate IV, making her a much knowledgeable and respected member of the Chiropractic Plus team since she started in 2015.
