Discover psychological therapy for a variety of mental health conditions, including:
Anxiety
Anxiety can be crippling, preventing you from thriving at home, at work and in your relationships with family and friends. If this common mental health condition is affecting your quality of life, it’s time to seek professional support.
Your psychologist in Warners Bay can help you conquer worry, stress and panic attacks with evidence-based therapies, such as CBT. Understand the source of your anxiety, learn strategies to regulate and reduce it, and take back control.
Depression
It’s normal to feel sad, unmotivated or apathetic now and again in response to upsetting or stressful experiences. That said, you may be overwhelmed by these feelings more often than not and irrespective of any negative event.
Depression can harm your relationships, work performance and health. To help you overcome it, we tailor a variety of modalities to your needs, including CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioural Activation, Schema Therapy, and ACT. You will work collaboratively with Grace to regain control over how you think and feel.
Sleep problems
Suffering from sleep anxiety? Both physical and mental factors, pain, hyper-arousal, depression and anxiety may be to blame.
The good news is that we can support you to sleep well and recharge for the day ahead. Our experienced psychologists in Warners Bay can integrate a range of proven modalities – including sleep hygiene, relaxation training, nightmare rescripting and specialist CBT for Insomnia – to help you get a better night’s rest.
Trauma
From physical and emotional abuse to military conflict and natural disasters, distressing memories can be triggered by even the most subtle associations. Left untreated, this trauma has the power to impact all pillars of your life, including your mental health.
If you are experiencing symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks or hypervigilance at any time following a distressing event, you may benefit from tailored trauma therapy.
Anger issues
Angry outbursts and unstable communication can create problems in your relationships, career, health and general happiness. While it’s not always possible to control or prevent situations that spark rage, there are strategies to manage it and react differently.
Our psychologists in Warners Bay are here to help you learn how to improve your communication, boost your self-confidence and feel more relaxed each day. Reduce anger and express your needs constructively.
Relationship difficulties
Stemming from both personal and shared challenges, relationships are complex and require ongoing maintenance. However, whether caused by a lack of communication, a slow but steady divergence in interests, or a specific experience like infidelity or loss, couples therapy can assist you and your partner to heal constructively.
Whether you’re considering separation, going through a rough patch, or simply wish to understand each other on a deeper level, relationship counselling is a chance to strengthen your bond. Reconnect with your partner in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space.
Neurodevelopmental disorders
Everyone’s brain works a little differently, and for those with neurodevelopmental conditions like ASD, ADHD or Specific Learning Disorders, that uniqueness can bring both strengths and struggles.
Whether it’s challenges with focus, academic skills or social interaction, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Our psychologists in Warners Bay work closely with families and individuals to build practical skills, nurture self-esteem and promote resilience.
Grief and loss
Grief is deeply personal — there’s no handbook for how you’re meant to feel, and no set timeline for when things should start to feel “normal” again. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, experienced the end of a relationship, or faced a major life change, the waves of sadness, anger or confusion can feel overwhelming.
Our psychologists offer personalised support as you process your loss and find a way to move forward. Together, we’ll create space to honour your loss, explore your emotions, and rebuild a sense of meaning at your own pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about your next visit? We have you covered!
-
Do you need a referral to see a psychologist?
No. You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, you may need a referral if you wish to receive a private health insurance or Medicare rebate for your sessions.
If you would rather undergo therapy as a private client, you won’t require a referral and can get in touch to arrange a session directly. Before your book, please note that private clients do not qualify for a rebate on session fees.
-
Does Medicare cover psychologists?
Yes. Under the Better Access to Mental Health Care program, Medicare can cover a range of psychological services if you have a Doctor’s referral.
To do this, you’ll have to attend an appointment with your GP or Psychiatrist and receive either a:
- Mental Health Care Plan, if referred by your General Practitioner (GP); or
- Psychiatrist Assessment and Management Plan, if referred by your Psychiatrist.
This pathway is possible for clients with a wide variety of mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related conditions and sleep issues.
Examples of suitable psychological modalities include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and other evidence-based approaches.
If you would like to see a registered psychologist through this pathway, you will have to visit your GP to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) first. Once you have an MHCP, you may claim a Medicare rebate on up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Please note that Medicare rebates are not available for couples therapy.
-
Can I get a rebate if I have private health insurance?
In some cases, yes. Provided you have ‘extras’ cover, certain private health insurance funds offer a rebate to help you pay for psychology services.
However, you may be required to supply the following information first:
- A referral from your GP
- Your chosen psychologist’s provider number for the particular fund, and
- A stamped receipt from your psychologist.
To confirm your eligibility, please speak directly to your fund before making an appointment with our psychologists in Warners Bay.
-
How long is each session?
Individual therapy sessions tend to take approximately 50 minutes. Couples therapy sessions are around 75 minutes in duration.
Our team can let you know how long your session will take at the time of booking.
-
How many therapy sessions will I need?
The number of psychological therapy sessions required is different for every client, as treatment plans are personalised to your unique needs and goals.
Some mental health concerns can be supported with brief interventions, whereas more complex conditions require ongoing, long-term therapy.
At Chiropractic Plus, we strive to provide you with the extent of support needed to help you lead a healthy and happy life, no matter how long that takes.
Your psychologist will keep track of your progress throughout your treatment plan and let you know when it may be time to scale back sessions.
-
Do you offer psychological assessments and reports?
Our psychologists in Warners Bay can provide assessment and diagnosis for some conditions.
Depending on your situation, your psychologist may be able to provide documentation and information sharing to third parties with your express consent.
That said, these reports may not be supplied to third parties for legal purposes.
-
Are psychologists confidential?
At Chiropractic Plus, we appreciate how sensitive the personal information that you share with your psychologist is, so we place the utmost importance on keeping it private. Any details you disclose during your session (including test results and case notes) will be treated confidentially and stored securely. We will not share this information with any third parties unless legally obligated.
There are some basic limits to confidentiality when it comes to safety. Your psychologist will discuss these with you at your first appointment before moving forward with therapy.
