Should I see a psychiatrist or Psychologist for depression?
Psychiatrists and Psychologists both offer ways to manage depression but differ in their methods. Psychiatrists focus on the biological side of mental illnesses and often use medication, considering a patient’s overall medical history. On the other hand, Psychologists concentrate on cognitive and behavioural aspects, targeting thought patterns that may be affecting your mental health.
The choice between them depends on the cause, nature and severity of your depression. Sometimes, a combined approach is the most suitable. Your GP can guide you as to what referrals may be appropriate.
At Chiropractic Plus, we are always happy to guide you in the right direction with therapy for depression. Our Psychologist will support you wherever possible and can refer you to an appropriate psychiatrist if recommended.
